Our Mission

FYLA Irvine/Tustin believes that meaningful change begins when students turn compassion into action. Our mission is to serve both our local community and communities around the world through student-led outreach, fundraising, and volunteer work. Through programs like Heart of Africa, Angel Tree, and Benetones, we hope to support children, families, seniors, and students in need while encouraging our members to become responsible and caring leaders.

What do we do?

FYLA Irvine/Tustin focuses on service through three main programs: Heart of Africa, Angel Tree, and through Local Park Clean Ups. Through Heart of Africa, members raise money by recycling bottles and cans and holding parking lot sales to support school meals, supplies, and learning environments for students in Malawi, Africa. Through Angel Tree, we help provide Christmas gifts for orphans, homeless children, and youth connected to Crittenton Services. Through park cleanups, members work together to remove trash, improve public spaces, and give back directly to our local community. In addition, FYLA also provides free tutoring for local students in subjects like math and English.

Globally, FYLA engages in both donation and service-based activities. Each member is committed to gathering and recycling plastic bottles and cans. Members raise at least $120 through recycling, and these funds are donated to Malawi to assist in school meal programs. Furthermore, are encouraged to get further involved with Crittenton Services. Crittenton provides services for over 2,000 clients per year. Many of these clients are high school age, and they hail from areas all around the globe including Latin America, the Middle East, and South Asia.

FYLA is a gathering of students who want to use their goodwill for the community at large. No matter the activity, FYLA is focused on bringing positive change in others’ lives a theme that has continued and will continue through our organization’s lifetime.
